A COLORFUL CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY AND HOLIDAY SPIRIT
HEAVENUE, a queer Christmas market located at Cologne’s Friesenplatz, is a celebration of community and togetherness. The design focuses on open, welcoming spaces where visitors can meet, interact, and feel at ease. Narrow alleys are intentionally avoided in favor of generous, accessible pathways. Through its thoughtful design and curated cultural program, the market creates an immersive atmosphere that embraces identity, diversity, and community while offering a joyful festive experience for everyone.

Modular stalls present playful Baroque Pop-Art elements such as ornaments, clouds, cherub silhouettes, and vibrant colors, forming a whimsical winter world with a cohesive artistic experience across the entire market. The colorful concept reflects diversity, while stripes and graphic motifs add lively accents. Black-and-white contrasts paired with glitter introduce a sense of drama. With its strong identity, the visual scheme convinced the paint manufacturer MYLANDS to sponsor the market with base colors from its high-quality palette.

Additional highlights include a fountain with choreographed light-and-water sequences and a rotating Christmas tree. Seating areas and a variety-style stage invite visitors to pause, socialize, and engage with the cultural program.

By transforming the public square into a sustainable project thoughtfully integrated into the city layout, HEAVENUE combines festive tradition with social purpose. In partnership with Cologne Pride e.V., the market promotes LGBTIQ* visibility and celebrates diversity through art, culture, and an inclusive holiday experience.
